Functions of Commission

The commission has several powers and functions, which can be

 a) Examination of policies and programs: The commission examines the Government’s policies and programs related to gender equality, women’s empowerment, and political participation. It also assesses their implementation and provides recommendations to the authorities.

b) Review of laws and regulations: The commission reviews provincial laws, rules, and regulations that are detrimental to women's rights. It suggests replacements, amendments, additions, or new legislation to eliminate discrimination and promote women's interests in accordance with the Constitution and international obligations.

c) Research and database maintenance: The commission sponsors and Encourages research on women and gender issues. It maintains a database to provide knowledge and awareness for government policies and strategic actions for women's empowerment.

d) Collaboration and networking: The commission interacts and collaborates with non-governmental organizations, experts, and individuals to achieve gender equality. It also establishes connections with similar commissions and institutions in other provinces for collaboration.

e) Mobilization of resources: The commission mobilizes grants from domestic and international sources to fulfill its obligations and perform its functions effectively.

f) The commission facilitates and monitors the implementation of international instruments and obligations related to women and girls. It provides opinions and inputs to the federal government before acceding to any proposed international instrument.

g) Information gathering: The commission can seek and receive information, data, and documents from provincial and federal sources in the course of its functions.

h) Inspections and recommendations: The commission inspects jails, sub jails, and other places where women and girls are held and makes appropriate recommendations to the relevant authorities.

i) Advocacy and empowerment: The commission acts as an advocate, lobbyist, and catalyst for the promotion of women's rights. It facilitates women's participation in various spheres of life, including legal, economic, social, and political empowerment.

j) Collaboration with other bodies: The commission liaises with the National Commission on the Status of Women, other provincial commissions, or relevant bodies to coordinate efforts and share information.

k) Monitoring redressal mechanisms: The commission monitors the mechanisms and procedures in place for addressing violations of women's rights.

l) The commission, with the approval of the Executive Committee, determines the honorarium or remuneration of advisors, consultants, and experts as prescribed.

m) Strategic planning and budget monitoring: The commission considers, approves, and monitors the implementation of the Strategic Plan and the Annual Budget.

n) The commission performs any other functions assigned to it by the government. These powers and functions enable the commission to promote gender Equality, safeguard women's rights, and empower women in various aspects of life in all over Sindh.
