Sindh Commission on the Status of Women was set up for the promotion of social, economic, political and legal rights of women, as provided in the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973, and in accordance with international declarations, Conventions, treaties, Covenants and agreements relating to women, including Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
The first chairperson for the Commission, Ms. Nuzhat Shirin, was appointed with the approval of competent authority, Chief Minister Government of Sindh, on 8th September 2017 and the office of the Commission was established on 10th October, 2017 in Old KDA Building no. 3 within the Sindh Secretariat, Karachi.
The Commission issued a notification declaring its establishment, members, and functions on 13th November, 2017.
